Kaede's father and mentor, Gaisei was found slain, and his fellow student Moriya Minakata was found standing over the dead body. Thinking Moriyama was responsible, Kaede chasd him for five years, until learning that another was the man responsible for Gaisei's death.
Kaede possesses the power of the legendary dragon Seiryū, one of the Four Sacred Beasts of Chinese mythology. He can transform with the beast's power, changing various physical aspects and giving him additional power, transforming into his Awakened Kaede form. With this power, he was able to defeat Kagami, the killer of his father and mentor.
Kaede is humble and polite for his age, modest about his accomplishments and careful about how he perceives himself to others. As Awakened Kaede, he is transformed into a cocky and brash warrior.
